Fabulous Mixed Media How To With Faber-Castell & Rita Barakat

Today is and exciting day here on the blog.

Why you ask?

It is a collaborative Blog Hop with 

Rita Barakat Designs & Faber-Castell!

And do I have a a fun mixed media project to share with you!

I found a rustic style wood clipboard in one of those dollar bins at Micheals and had been waiting for the perfect time to use it.

This hop was that moment!

To begin, I used Faber-Castell White Gesso over the entire front surface of the board, and let set. Once the gesso had dried, I began the process of adding color and finishes to the clipboard, using a variety of Faber-Castell Gelatos in shades from the Iridescent & Metallic collections.

Once I had layered the colors, and blended with a light spritz of water and my finger, I added interest by using Faber-Castell Stencils.

I added additional interest to the Gelato stenciled butterflies using Faber-Castell PITT Artist Pen Brushes in White & Black. 

I also used the Faber-Castell PITT Big Brush Pen, on a stamp with a handwritten design, randomly stamped allover the surface, making a ghosted background.

Next I added Faber-Castell Transfer Images in a floral motif, along one side and bottom corner of the clipboard to coordinate with the floral die cut from 

Rita Barakat's Be True Die Cut Collection.

Using Gelato's & Faber-Castell Aquarelle Watercolor Pencils, I colored in the transfer images, using water & a fine tip watercolor brush.

I also used this technique with the other Faber-Castell Transfer Images used on the clipboard.

To give a more rustic look to the design, I used PLAID Painted Finishes in Rust on the clip to give an aged look.

To finish the design, I added a beautiful cowgirl die cut from Rita Barakat's Wild And Free Collection, using Scrapbook Adhesives.

And there you have it, a clipboard to sit on your creative surface, or desk to clip creative ideas to, or use to clip on daily inspiring verses or quotes.

From Scrap Wood To A Whimsical Piece of Art How To

Hello Creatives!

Welcome to INSPIRE!

Do you ever look at something basic or ordinary and think about how you can turn it into something FAB?

Well, that is exactly what I did with a scrap wood block, some paint, paper, stamps and the AMAZING Magical Mysteries Embossing Powder by Rita Barakat!

My hubby is a hobbyist carpenter, so there is generally a good amount of scraps laying around in our garage, so when I find I am stumped creatively, I usually raid the scraps.

With this design I decided to use wooden (small) drawer pulls I found at Hobby Lobby as the legs rather than the wooden spool in the photo above. 

I chose some scrap patterned paper from my stash to use as a background and proceeded to add it to the block by tearing the pieces and adhering it with Mod Podge Matte finish.

Once the Mod Podge had set, I used a dry brush technique, and added white gesso to the paper. I then used a variety of stamps, along with archival black ink, and added to the "background" for my design.

On a separate piece of paper, I used blue ombre' ink, and 

Rita Barakat's "Dream Chaser" Art Foamie Stamp. While the ink was still wet, I added Rita's Magical Mysteries Embossing Powder in Midnight Magic, and set with heat.

For the wood heart cut-outs, I brushed two coats of white gesso to the surface. Once dried, I used an Embossing Ink Pad stamped on the surface of the hearts, and added 3 coats of Rita's Magical Mysteries Embossing Powder in Kiss of the Fairy and heat set between each layer.

Using Beacon 527 Multi Use glue, I added the "legs" to the bottom of the block, and a mini finial to the top, all which had been painted with PLAID Folk Art Acrylic Paint.

I also added a resin fairy embellishments, and an embellished paper butterfly, a metal photo bracket, the Art Foamie Stamp sentiment & the embossed hearts.

To bring just a bit more whimsy, I embellished the finial with seam binding and a maetal pendant.

Such a colorful and whimsical fun design. And what better to chase a dream then a fairy?

The Cowgirl Way Mixed Media Tag How To

Hey There Creatives!

Welcome to INSPIRE.

Today, I am sharing a creative project using a new Die Cut release by Rita Barakat, 

"Wild & Free" Cowgirls.

This is a delightful collection of original artwork by Rita Barakat, that works nicely for any creative project!

For this project, I chose to use a craft paper heavy tag as the background.

I definitely wanted to use denim or denim like colors in this project, after all, she is a cowgirl, so I used Color Box Chalk Ink in Denim, along with edging with Ken Oliver Color Burst in Prussian Blue.

I also used the chalk ink with a texture patterned stencil.

Next, I had previously made a variety of backgrounds with Ken Oliver Color Burst, and chose one I had embossed using Rita Brakat's Magical Mysteries Embossing Powder in Midnight Magic for the background.

At this point, I used a scrap piece of denim fringe, to attach to the bottom of the tag, using Beacon Multi Grip Glue.

I had textured the edges of both the tag and the background to give a distressed edge prior, and used double sided foam squares to adhere the back ground to the tag base.

From this point, it was all a matter of layering and adding elements along with the Cowgirl Die Cut.

The embellishments included metallic embossed stickers by Tim Holtz Ideaology, as well as a sentiment from the Ideaology Small Chat stickers.

I also added scrap lace, a couple of mini doilies, fabric & denim scrap to make a ribbon for the top of the tag, and handmade flowers that matched her dress perfectly!

So easy, with so much country charm!

Inspire, Dream, Imagine Colorful Canvas Banner How To

Hello Creative Friends!

I wanted to stop in and share with you,

 my recent project for Rita Barakat Designs.

A colorful banner, using Rita's 

"Reflections" stamp from Technique Junkies.

I had a few left over canvas banners from a couple of other projects, so I used them together to make a fuller length banner.

I also used PLAID Watercolor Acrylic Paint, in a variety of color, as well as few other stamps from my stash.

To make one for yourself, you will also need ribbon ( I used seam binding colored with ink to coordinate with the paint), burlap felt, stencil design, and a punching tool and eyelets to secure the holes for the ribbon to pass through.

BUT...first things first.

The main image for the center banner.

I first used an archival ink to stamp the image directly to the banner surface.

To color the "Reflections" stamped image, I also used a flesh tone paint marker along with a variety of markers and gelato's, as well as paint markers in pink and blue for just a subtle pop of color for her face and eyes.

I wanted my banner to be much stiffer and weightier on the center flag, so I added a piece heavy felt to the back of it using Beacon Multi-Grip Glue.

Next I used a stencil design and a dauber style sponge, to apply the paint to each flag, alternating the designs per each flag.

Using a design roller stamp, I went around the edges of each flag, to give a faux/sewn look, and added stamped images to the 2 remaining flags.

I then used my Crop-A-Dile to add the hole and eyelets to the center flag, and preceded to do the same to the remaining flags.

For sentiments, I stamped the words "Inspire, Dream & Imagine" on the scraps of burlap, and added them to the center, and each of the flags on each side of the center, using Beacon glue once again.

I also used a couple of phrase stamps, and image stamps, on the remaining burlap, and added them to the end flags on each side, to add texture and interest.

For final touches, I threaded the seam binding through the eyelet holes to bring the banner together, and added the ink dyed ribbons as tendrils to each flag.

And there you have it!

A colorful, fun and inspiring banner to hang on the wall for daily inspiration!

A Gorgeous Altered Embroidery Hoop How To & Blog Hop!

Today is SOOOOOOO exciting!

Today, is the Rita Barakat Designs & 

StyleTech Craft blog hop!

My project features

a die cut from Rita's NEW Marvelous Mermaids 

die cut collection,

along with GORGEOUS glittered

vinyl from StyleTech Craft.

I always keep the inexpensive embroidery hoops around in a variety of sizes, they are always fun to use to make mixed media projects.

For this project, I chose a smaller size. I also love 

up-cycling in crafting, and used an acrylic sheet

left over from a stamp collection for my base.

But first, I chose from a variety of StyleTech Craft Vinyl, the Ultra Metallic & Ultra Metallic FX vinyl,

to create design features.

Since I am using a mermaid in the project, every mermaid needs a spot to just "be a mermaid", so why not a seaweed garden?

Using my Cricut machine, I cut out sea weed, and sea bush designs in Lime Tree (Ultra Metallic) & Drab Green FX (Ultra FX).

I also used my machine to cut a variety of sizes in bubble designs, using from the Ultra Metallic collection White & Tiffany Blue.

Once I had cut the designs, I figured out the layout, and began putting it together.

I first applied the sea weed designs to the acrylic sheet, using the AMAZING Style Tech Craft tape transfer. The design layout, I used the darker shade to the back of the light shade, to look kind of shadowed.

Next I used PLAID Glitterific Paint in Turquoise, on the backside of the acrylic sheet.

Once the paint had set, I then added the vinyl bubbles to the acrylic sheet.

I had also used PLAID Mod Podge Mega Glitter, alone on the embroidery hoop.

I decided to add PLAID Watercolor Acrylic Paint on the back of the background, to give a more blue color.

For the mermaid, I added PLAID Glitterific pant to make her glimmer & shimmer.

In finishing the design,  I added some fiber yarn, sentiment, ribbon and clay embellishments in sea themed designs.

And Beacon Multi-Grip Glue was the perfect adhesive to put it all together!

And there you have it!

A gorgeous sea like project, featuring a beautiful mermaid in her perfect playground!
