Fabulous & Vibrant Art Journal Page With Tags How To Featuring Rita Barakat Designs & Ken Oliver Color Bursts

Today here on INSPIRE, 

is the Rita Barakat Designs & Ken Oliver Colorburst Collab Blog Hop!

For my project, I designed an Art Journal page, along with a variety of textured and colorful tags, Featuring Rita Barakat Designs Mystical Creatures Die Cuts, and Ken Oliver Colorburst Fresh Florals Collection.

The art journal I am using is an expired planner book, that features calendar grid pages. For this art entry, I used Heavy White Gesso to cover the calendar, only leaving certain design elements exposed.

While waiting for the gesso to dry, I used some Plaid Extreme Glitter paint, to add some sparkle to the die cut images.

I then "practiced" techniques using the Fresh Floral Colorburst's, using heavy cardstock tags, and a variety of mediums including gesso, texture paste & Tim Holtz Distress Resist Spray, along with a variety of stamps, ink & Rita Barakat's Magical Mysteries Embossing Powder in Midnight Magic.

Technique 1: Gesso, Punchinella, ColorBurst & water spritz.

Technique 2: Distress Resist Spray, Stencil, Light Colorburst followed through with watercolor brush & light water.

Technique 3: Stamp, Embossing Ink & Rita Barakat Magical Mysteries Embossing Powder.

I then followed with light tap of ColorBurst and water spritz.

So in playing with different techniques, to create the art journal layout, I used a mix of them all, lol.

I just could not decide which I liked the most.

As you see by the background in this photo, all techniques worked together

to create depth, texture and amazing color fluidity!

To add more interest to the design, I used a variety of stamps along with archival ink.

Final touch, was adding the FABULOUS die cuts, adding dimension to each by shadowing around each, using a graphite pencil and blending with water and a brush.

Perfect Color, Texture, with Whimsical Inspiration, in an art journaling page & tags to be used in future projects too!

BoHo Inspired Jars With Magical Mysteries How To

Hello Creatives!

Welcome to INSPIRE!

Today I want to share a quick tutorial,

 on how to up-cycle a simple glass jar,

and turn it into something "MAGICAL".

My latest obsession is the oh so yummy

Oui Yogurt, specifically the Mango Oui Yogurt.

YUMMO!!!!!

The jars are starting to pile up, so it is time

to do something crafty with these gems.

First, cleaning the jars. 

These labels are tough to remove!

I soaked them in scalding hot water, and once I could get a corner lose in soak, I peeled the labels from the jar.

To remove the tack left behind, I used Best Cleaner Ever by ScraPerfect, which is an environmentally safe cleaner.

Once the tack was removed, I washed with soapy warm water, and towel dried.

For one jar, I chose a mini stencil for the design. 

Using Nuvo Crystal Drops in Clear, I traced the stencil design unto the jar.

I then reached for Rita Barakat's Magical Mysteries Embossing Powder in Kiss of the Fairy and applied over the Nuvo Crystal Drop design.

For the rim and bottom, I added Magical Mysteries EP in Midnight Magic.

Using my heat tool, I set the first application of the embossing powder, and while the area was still warm, I added another coating of the powder.

To give each jar a jeweled look, I used the embossing ink applied to the smooth area's of the jars, and applied the embossing powders, setting the powders with heat tool and reapplying until I had achieved desired finish.

I chose to do a canvas project, using the 

Midnight Magic & Kiss The Fairy Magical Mysteries embossing powders.

I also used the Heart Wing Foamie Stamp by Rita Barakat, that can be found in her Etsy store along with the entire line of the Magical Mysteries embossing powders.

So to begin my canvas, I chose coordinating 

Distress Oxide Inks that coordinated with my choice of embossing powders.

Using a Distress Inking Tool, I added the ink as my background, lightly overlapping the different shades.

I used a couple of round of water spritz, to oxidize the ink, once I had the desired shade. I used spray ink to add splatters to the background.

Using heavy white cardstock and embossing ink, I used the foamy stamp and begin the layering of the embossing powder.

This embossing powder is so rich in color, and so very easy to set! I only added a couple of layers for a more textured effect, setting each with my heat tool.

I used a small beading of glue around the heart in the center of the wings, and added two layers of the Kiss The Fairy embossing powder.

I used mini brads, and a medium square brad to secure the heart to the canvas, making small holes with my craft knife. 

Using gel medium, I added the phrase & bracket, and a gorgeous crown embellishment.

I love the way it turned out. And I LOVE these embossing powders!
